100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers Ahead

Teen drivers are the most at risk group of drivers. As the summer months approach so does the most dangerous time of year.

The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is dubbed by the American Automobile Association as “The 100 Deadliest Days” for teen drivers. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety says seven of the 10 deadliest days of the year for teens fall between those holidays.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, about 3,000 teens in the United States aged 15-19 were killed and more than 350,000 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor-vehicle crashes in 2009.

From prom and graduations to the Fourth of July, summer months mean more freedom for teen drivers, more time on the road, more distractions, and increases their risk exponentially. Many teens ask for expanded driving privileges for their parents. Texting, talking on the cell phone and drinking and driving compounded with inexperience all pose serious risks.

Take the time to talk with your teen this summer about staying safe behind the wheel. And you’ll want to make sure you get the best protection possible for you and your family.
