Orlando Commercial Insurance: Motivating Your Employees

Orlando Commercial Insurance: Motivating Your Employees

A national study conducted earlier this year showed that less than 1 in 4 non-management employees are fully engaged while at work. How is your Orlando business empowering your employees?

When you own or manage an Orlando commercial business, it’s very important to maintain good relationships with your employees, and to know what motivates and demotivates them. Although every individual is different, here are a few general motivational tips for the workplace.

Take a genuine interest in your employees’ work-life balance, as well as their future career path. Try to offer some flexibility in scheduling, and be understanding about family or educational commitments, doctor’s appointments, etc. In addition, be sure to mentor and coach your employees while at work, as this is something that they value.

Listen thoughtfully. Although there will be a reasonable limit as to how much personal information is shared from your employees, if they feel that their manager is approachable and understanding, they are more likely to have a positive attitude and feel more driven at work.

Respect your employees as individuals. It’s important to remember that you were a beginner at some point. Treat your employees as you were treated or would have liked to be treated when you were in their shoes.

Give credit. Good managers are secure enough to give full credit where it’s due. If an employee contributed something that helped you land a client, for example, let them know and thank them.

Offer praise. If your employees are doing a good job, let them know. Recognize them for their actions and let them know that they are a valued member of your team. A few simple words of encouragement go a long way in improving an employee’s attitude.
